Everyone knows that I’ve a strong wanderlust.
Also, I’ve a dream of living in a house filled with my books and travel souvenirs.
I wasn’t so obsessed with travel.
Many years ago, my grandfather (Nana) planted a travel seed in my mind, now it’s slowly growing into a tree!
While growing up, I would spend every summer vacation with my grandparents in Bhopal. My friends would go to different exotic locations, while I would always go to Bhopal.
I protested to my parents, “Why do we have to go to Bhopal, why can’t we go anywhere else?”. They said “No, you should spend time with Nana and Nani”.
Again, I protested to Nana “I don’t get to travel anywhere except Bhopal”
Nana looked at me, hold my hand and said “You’re young, you will get to travel a lot when you become older”
Then he started telling his travel stories and lesson learned from them.
– The story where he met Gaddafi in Libya and realized “absolute power corrupts absolutely”
– The story where he got lost in Paris, was about to miss his flight and didn’t speak French . He communicated using hand gestures and realized “Language isn’t the only way of communication, you can tell a lot by someone’s body language”
– The story where he lost his train ticket in America. He was helped by strangers and realized “A act of kindness can make a tremendous impact of person’s life. Always be kind to others”
While holding his hand, I was transported to a new world where I was eating delicious crepes in front of the Eiffel tower; taking a walk in the Central Park and enjoying a beautiful sunset at Grand Canyons.
I’m still the same kid at heart whose holding his grandpa’s hand and creating his own travel stories.
He passed away few years back but he is still alive in my heart in the form of beautiful memories.
Those summer vacations in Bhopal were the best days of my life.
prAts!
