There are lot of things in my life that I can’t control such as my mood swings and my unpredictable future but there are many things which I can control to make my life better.
And one of these things is “laziness“.
Whenever I close my eyes, I can visualize that I am capable of achieving bigger things in my life but the only thing that stops me from achieving my goals is my “own laziness”.
‘My ambition is handicapped by my laziness’.
I have spent countless days just lying on my bed with my To-Do list lying next to my bed.
I have also spent countless days simply sitting in front of TV and just changing channels.
There have been days, when pressing buttons of remote control is the only exercise that I do.
Does this situation sound familiar to you?
If yes, welcome to my club.
If not, visit a hospital for a check you might not be a Human.
Anyways,
I always thought everything can be achieved if a person has willingness to work hard but I never thought about laziness (my biggest hurdle).
What differentiates me from people whom I look up to (my idol/role model) –
I tend to procrastinate while they don’t.
I have procrastinated, made endless excuses and blamed others for my own failure.
But it’s time to change and change is what I seek for myself.
My plan to curb my Laziness
1 DISCIPLINE:
“Dedication is impossible without discipline”. – Oprah
These words sound so heavy and serious. If I could bring discipline in my life, I don’t need to read “How to overcome laziness”. Discipline is important. In my definition, discipline means our ability to commit to a task regularly. For instance, it could be small things such as avoiding junk food or exercise daily. I need to start slowly – baby step at a time. I will make sure that at least I’m able to bring discipline in my life.
2 Plan your entire day-
“He who fails to plan is planning to fail” – Winston Churchill
I will “Plan my entire day” as soon as I wake up. It takes only 4 minutes to plan my day. I will also imagine myself finishing those tasks. I know as my day progress, new tasks will arrive and I might have to reschedule my plan. I will be keeping buffer for new tasks. It doesn’t matter, I need to focus on the most essential task and make sure I’m able to finish at least half of my list by end of the day. Even if I’m not able to finish the entire task, I won’t be disheartened. I will look at the task that I have finished and will be proud of my achievements. Plus will compliment at least 1 person in the entire day and bring smile to their face.
3 TO – DO LIST –
“We can do a better job by finishing our list to do” – Obama
I will customize my To Do list in my Smart phones. I have a To Do list for shopping, Long term goal, and Daily To Do list (same as plan your day). I don’t want to make endless to do list, scratching those bullets point is vital. I need to take actions and finish those pending tasks.
4 Reading, Writing & Exercising:
“I read a book one day and my whole life was changed.” – Oscar Wilde
I have 1440 minutes in a day. I need to spend minimum 20 minutes for reading books (it could be History, Fiction, Non- Fiction, Autobiography i.e. any genre I you like but I need to keep reading). Reading keeps my mind stimulated, increases my knowledge & my thinking ability & also brings happiness.
Writing regularly reduces my stress, improves my concentration and helps me focus on present.
“Health is wealth” . If I need to be active, I need to start exercising in the morning.
5 Reason your action –
“The reason I talk to myself is because I’m the only one whose answers I accept.” – George brown
Why I am doing this? What are its benefits? Will it help me or my family? What are its long term benefits? Do I like what I’m doing?
Ask as many questions as you want only than you will find answers.
I need to reason every action that I do.
Every action has a reason, I need to find those reasons and remember those asnwers for continuous efficiency.
6 One bit at a time:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
Imagine, eating an entire meal in one go. Does the idea sound absurd and foolish?
Many times, I take on too many responsibilities which I am unable to complete.
I need to focus on doing one small things to achieve your goals.
7 Better organized by better Time Management –
Time = life; therefore, waste your time and waste of your life, or master your time and master your life. – Alan Lakein
On several occasions, I have wasted my time on things that never should have bothered me. I need to stop wasting my time on trivial details.
8 Have a day off –
I’m not a robot; I need to take break too. On Sunday, I will rest and just relax to avoid burn out.
Inspiration – I have written in “first person” to remind myself to get rid of my laziness. Every month, I will get rid of my one bad habit to make my life better.
