I was standing in the lift of my apartment when I overheard a conversation between two guys.
One of them said “Dude our nation is doomed, nothing good can ever happen to our country”
Lift reached ground floor & we parted our ways.
I started my bike and reached the traffic signal where a Traffic cop stopped me for traffic violation,
My Crime – I was (p) wearing a Helmet but I was (p) driving on wrong side. (Hand gesture – HG) I tried to persuade him to leave me. He said “No”, I said “please”, He said “No” Again I said “Please” finally it worked and I walked away (Movement) by paying Rs100. Not as a fine (long pause) but as a bribe.
I started my bike and drove towards my destination. On my way, I saw an old relic near the beautiful Pashan Lake. I stopped to admire the creativity of some youngster who had carved “Billu loves Rani” on its wall, maybe in the hope that their love would last as long as the relic.
I’m sure Billu and Rani must be happily in love with someone else: P
Anyway, I reached my destination, D-mart and bought the monthly grocery, after the billing the cashier didn’t have any change so he gave me a 5-star, I ate the tasty 5-star and threw the wrapper (HG) on the road.
Then, I saw a beautiful women passing by me and suddenly two guys on bike sped by, passing lewd comments at her. By the time I could intervene, they were already a speck of dust.
On my way back, a middle age person asked for a lift, I stopped and gave him lift. We started talking and he shared his anguish regarding his judicial court case pending since 15 years. I dropped him at the junction.
As soon as I reached my society, I was greeted by a kid who was cleaning the floor instead of studying in the school.
Still thinking about my conversation with the frustrated Indian, I reached home and thought over the entire day’s events specially about the Q –
“Can any good ever happen in our country?”
This Q kept lingering in my mind.
After much deliberate thought, I felt “They were right – Nothing good can happen to our country”
Why?
It’s simple, look at the corruption from the Traffic cop at the signal to the Telecom Minister – everyone is corrupt. Red tape has vitiated our system.
Soon, we will have a new Right in the constitution “Right to corruption”.
26% of our population is below the poverty line and don’t have food to eat.
Do you know that 26% of these poor exceed the entire population of France and many European nations?
Our streets are squalid and filled with potholes.
Our judicial system is exploited by the rich and the powerful & our courts take years to provide sentence & the pending cases are a common misery of no of citizens.
India is the leader in the I.T solution, we dominate the world through call centers but more than 30% of our population is illiterate?
We have the most beautiful heritage and monuments in the world which are vandalized by scribbling on the wall.
We have increasing no of female feticide’s, Rapes & molestation’s happening every day in the various cities of the country.
I CAN GO on and on and on….
Now my Question to you all is-
Do you agree with what I just said? If NO, then please raise your hand
———– Pause &Position change —-
But friends there are so many good things about India which we take for granted such as
If we were living in Saudi Arabia,
Sri Hari wouldn’t be able to ask a beautiful girl for a date.
Sambhav wouldn’t be able to go out on a long drives with his girlfriends.
Deepti wouldn’t be allowed to drive an activa or a car.
(Names to be changed as per the presence)
If we were born in Africa,
We wouldn’t be able to go out after sun set for fear of life.
We wouldn’t be able to travel alone without body guards.
If we were born in China,
We couldn’t publicly criticize our government.
Hell, we can’t even access Facebook or YouTube in china.
If we were born in Afghanistan,
We couldn’t enjoy the small amenities such as electricity, water etc
Now, let me come to my original question “Can any good happen in our country?”
My answer is still nothing good can ever happen in our country until we change ourselves.
Be the change that you want to be.
We are responsible for the rampage corruption. If we stop giving bribe, no one will dare to ask for bribe.
We disrespect our women and tolerate such wanton behavior.
We throw our garbage on the street instead of the dustbin and then cry over the filthy condition of our surrounding.
We want our children to be engineers but we want our servant child to remain servile.
Before we compare India with USA. Remember this – USA attained independence 200 years ago while India attained independence 60 years ago and so we still have a long way to go and a lot to do before we reach there.
Thank you.
prAts!
