Few months back, I was travelling to Bangalore when I met a student who was going for engineering counselling (admission) to Bangalore.
During our conversation, he asked me never ending series of question about college life such as which stream to choose? Which field has the widest scope? Which field has greater number of jobs and higher packages? Does raging still take place?
After exhausting round of questionnaire was getting over, he asked me a final question that completely took me by surprise.
He asked me ‘what is the one advice you would give to younger Prateek?’
I pondered for a while and came with an answer ‘Keep your mind focus on present task & do everything with concentration. For instance, don’t think about playing while studying and don’t thinking about assignments and approaching exams while playing”.
Isn’t it one of the most neglected aspects of our daily life?
While at work, we think about our problems at home.
While at home, we think about the unresolved issue at work.
In our never ending rat race, we can’t focus on the present. We are always bothered about our past failures and unpredictable future that we forget to enjoy the present moments.
I believe – it’s important to act on your present to make a brighter future.
In one of my favorite movie Kung fu panda, Master Oogway says –
Quit, don’t quit? Noodles, don’t noodles? You are too concerned about what was and what will be. There was a saying: yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the “present.”
Last not the least, I would advice young Prateek to learn from his mistakes. After all, by seeking and blundering we learn.
P.S – In the below comment section, please share ‘what advice you would give to younger yourself’.
prAts!
I would say “There isn’t a thing in the world you cannot do ..and u cannot be!! “
I would tell myself:
1. Go out, enjoy! Play! Soak in the sunshine! Make new friends, meet new people! Find yourself by exploring!
2. Don’t trust everyone too easily. This is easier said than done mostly because I know I can’t follow my own advice. But having said that, I’d like to point out to my younger self that taking chances and trusting people is worth it. You live and learn this way.
3. Put your heart into what you’re doing.
4. If your gut/conscience tells you something is wrong, LISTEN to it! Your gut is the one you should learn to listen to, not the multitude of voices telling you what you are or what you should be doing.
” Put your heart into what you’re doing.” Divi, I agree with you!!
I would say ” Follow what your heart says, and always trust in god & do the right!!”
Yes! Stay calm and trust god..
Don’t just survive, Live !
Kokane, I will not only live but will make it large..
I would say “go out, meet someone new. wander world. just keep calm and see, there is lot in the horizon and if you go ahead, you’ll fill footstep of legends”
Loved it Omar.. I will try to live my life on those words
