A boy was born in a small town in an upper middle class family. Family and relatives celebrated welcome of a new family member.
Parent’s always provided their child with all the happiness they could ever provide and everything they could buy.
The kid grew up with a home, a car, a mom (House Manager), a father (always busy with work) and servants present to cater his every need.
As he grew up, he was taught the virtues of the world – what is good and what is bad.
He was told – “If you do something bad , god will punish you.” He was taught to fear and worship God.
If he commits any mischief he was threatened to be beaten by his parents and thus the BOY learns “TO FEAR “.
The boy went to school; there too he was warned by his teacher about the repercussion of any mischief. If he won’t do his homework, he would be beaten by teacher with a scale or worst would be sent to the principal room for futher scolding. Thus the kid learns to FEAR.
In the class, the kid summon all the courage to raise his hand to ask a doubt, he was scolded, insulted by his teacher for asking any doubt. The kid felt humiliated and his fear grew stronger and then the “KID NEVER ASKED A DOUBT IN HIS LIFE”.
The kid continues to grow, he always led a protective life filled with fear and he started losing his believe in himself.
Then the exam approached, the kid was told by his parents – “if you get good marks, we will buy you a new toy” and the kid was told by his teacher – “you have to get good marks ELSE…”
Nobody asked the kid whether he understood the chapter or whether his concept was clear. The kid learned a lesson – “only scoring good Marks matter”. The kid was told to mug the syllabus in order to score good marks. That day the kid learned to MUG not to Understand and the basic foundation of learning was crippled.
Thus the kid learns to fear “Exam”.
The kid passed every grade while forgetting what he learnt in the previous grade. Thus the kid started scoring good marks without learning.
The kid was told by his parents – “Don’t play, study”. Like every other parents, the kid parents wanted their kid to score more marks in academics and was told “Don’t play now, you will have your entire life to play”.
Thus the kid never excelled in any sports nor could learn the lessons of life taught by sports. The kid spent his life only scoring meaningless school marks.
Coming to present time – It’s 4 am and the KID is thinking about the day when he asked the doubt in the class and what if his doubt was cleared – his life would have changed and he would never ever fear anything.
Inspiration: I always think, Indian education system needs to shed its obsession with approach of “mugging-passing-forgetting” instead should focus more on understanding the concepts.
PrAts !
According to me , most of the people define success as scoring high marks and fetching huge package . And you said absolutely correct that focus should be more on understanding the concepts.
Amazing work as always
