I was Exhausted but Happy.
My body was sweating, hair messed up and the muscles in my legs reasserting their presence, surely, sitting on a chair would be a challenge for the next few days.
All this after attending a 2 hour ‘Advance Salsa Shine lesson‘ by Eddie Torres. During the class, I was trying to cope up with Eddie and remember/follow the sequences. It’s hard!
During the break, I was admiring how gracefully he moves his body during the demo. His dance moves are impeccable. May be, that’s why he is called ‘The Mambo King’/’The King of the Salsa’.
The class ends.
While I’m waiting at the subway station, the salsa music and the shine sequence continues to play in my mind.
And suddenly, I realized how much I miss dancing Salsa on those Latin beats.
Most of you know that I love salsa dancing but only few know how it began?
Flash back to few years back.
It was a Sunday morning, may be around 8 am. I was sleeping, and my phone started ringing.
Nothing annoys me more than someone interrupting my sleep. I love sleeping!
Finally, I picked up my friend’s call. To maintain anonymity, let’s call him ‘A’.
Below is the gist of our conversation:
A: Dude, let’s join Salsa class?
Me: No, dude. I don’t want to waste my time, let me go back to sleep.
A: Dude, you know that I recently broke up with my girlfriend. I need to meet new girls, let’s join salsa class to meet them. You can be my wing man. (Later in my life, I learned that I suck at being a wing man)
Me: Dude, I’m not interested, let me go back to sleep.
Fast forward to 5 mins of emotional blackmail, I said ‘YES‘.
In the evening, we registered for the Salsa Beginner’s session.
My friend was thrilled, while I was insipid.
We reached the class, and found that there were 13 guys and 3 girls (senior instructors).
I’m not kidding, we didn’t meet any new girl.
My friend was really disappointed.
We continued the session, but something incredible happened.
Suddenly, I started enjoying dancing on the count of ‘123-567′.
It was an incredible feeling.
My friend discontinued salsa dancing after a month while I continued salsa dancing for the next 3 years.
Now, I look back at my life. The unexpected ‘YES’ changed my life. Met fantastic people, and made genuine friends from the salsa community.
Most importantly, I had so much fun dancing salsa..
P.S. ‘Everything in life is completely accidental and random, just have fun!’.
Cheers,
PrAts!
